Rumors are floating around that Android 3.0 a.k.a Honeycomb will require dual-core processor , but that make’s no sense. This year many portable devices will have dual-core processor (Tegra 2) but most of those devices will be Tablets and not smartphones.

If Honeycomb truly requires dual-core processor in order to run correctly, does that mean that all Droid SmartPhones, Samsung Galaxy’s and the rest of the 1Ghz smartphones will stuck with Android 2.2, Android 2.3 OS?

That would make no sense, unless they develop some strip down Honeycomb OS for Smartphones, I do not believe that Android 3.0 will require dual-core processors.

Anyway, I will leave that topic alone until later this year. I know that Android 2.0+ required faster processors than 500mhz to run “ok”, yet people still hacked their phones with Cynogen and ran Android 2.1 on 256mhz!

  • 8MP rear Camera
  • 1.3 (VGA) front Camera
  • Android 2.3 (a.k.a Gingerbread)
  • 4.3 Inch Display (Super AMOLED would be preferred)

Samsung Galaxy Tab that just got released has some good sales going on, but gues what? Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 according to Korea Times might show up at CES 2011!

This is good news for those that have not buy tablet yet, but it is bad news for those that own Samsung Galaxy Tab! Imagine that you buy brand new HDTV which is latest model, and then 2 months later you find out that for the same price you get lets say more MHz and 3D with it, well that’s how Samsung Galaxy Tab owners will feel after January 9th 2011.

Apparently the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 should come with Android 2.3 and Tegra 2 chip which is dual-core processor. We also heard that Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 will upgrade rear camera to 5MP which is now 3.2pm (I wondered why they didn’t do that on the first Gen?)

Anyway, these are all unconfirmed news regarding Samsung Galaxy Tab, I guess will find out about it more on January 6th through 9th at the CES 2011.

This morning looking at my RSS feeds, many reported about the future devices we might see at CES 2011 on January 6-9th, so I just wanted to bundle all those rumors up for you.

New Dell Tablet 7 inch showed up on FCC and according to some sources online it is rumored that it’s coming to T-Mobile/ATT. This might be possible 7 inch tablet with Tegra 2 (Dual Core) Processor.

Next rumor does not surprise me at all, but some sources are saying that Apple will announce CDMA iPhone which you will be able to use it on Verizon Network with Skype Video calling feature. I personally don’t believe in that rumor(s) at all. It’s not the way Apple represents their *future* devices.

Samsung Galaxy Player should appear at CES which is basically Samsung Galaxy S without calling features just like iPod Touch.

Samsung SH100 should be also shown at CES 2011 and I am really not sure whets the whole fuss about it. Its just a digital camera with maybe few extra features from digital cameras that you can already buy at stores today. But then again, CES can be full of surprises and I am sure SH100 will have one too. 3D LCD? :)

Skype new features might be the biggest thing that will happen at CES. Now that Android 2.3 with more video capability is out, you might be able to Video chat with your friends on Skype via Nexus S or even iPhone 4?

Well that’s about it for today CES rumors , I am sure we will see much more in next few weeks.

Notion Ink Adam Tablet which is one of the tablets that might succeed among competitors such as iPad and Samsung Galaxy Tab is going to be ready for Pre-Order today at 1:30PM EST

Notion Ink Tablet will come with Android 2.2 and Tegra Dual Core 250 Processor. Notion Ink also mentioned that they incorporated some features from Android 2.3 and also will work on Android 3.0 upgrade later.

NIA Pre-Order

You will be able to pre-order Notion Ink Adam today for $379.99 Wi-Fi version and $499 for 3Gversion which is about $100-$200  cheaper than iPad or Samsung Galaxy Tab. But if you want Transflective Pixel Qi model than you will be able to have it for $499 Wi-Fi and $549.99 for 3G Version.

As I said above, they are going to mix some Android 2.3 and Android 3.0 features into Notion Ink Adam and here is what they say:

    • OpenGL works better on NVidia’s Tegra than on anything else in this space – because of their expertise on graphics, their implementation on the built-in GPU of the Tegra 250 SoC is exhaustive and highly accelerated. OpenSL support is something which will come as an update soon (we love Open SL because we love graphical visualizations for audio, which need really fast Fast Fourier Transforms)
    • SIP/VOIP. Implementations of SIP and VOIP already exist. With the newly announced official support, programmers can port much more confidently to the Adam.
    • Multi-touch keyboard. When we were working on Office Application, we realised how important “Ctrl+z” was, and then decided to design a multi-touch keyboard. Well it seems it is also coming on Android 2.3 and 3.0. Adam comes 2 special keyboard designs, both of which are multi-touch enabled. In our usability studies it was clear that touch keyboard will have annoyingly high error rates. One of the observations made during those tests was, that if you get rid of the lines or space which exist between the keys, users become much more focused on their typing, experienced users had far better word counts and error rates reduced drastically. The other version is a split keyboard which you can use when you are holding your device with both your hands. We have added quick access keys and all your keys can have 2 functions (hence the multi-touch requirement – take a look at the keyboard in the end)
    • Better Copy, cut and paste. Now, this already existed since long in the Office environment, and the native implementation is also there.
    • Android 2.3 comes with Kernel version 2.6.35. The latest which NVidia Tegra works with is 2.6.36! ;) http://android.git.kernel.org/?p=kernel/tegra.git;a=summary (Please see the details on this new kernel online, and you’d know the reason behind that smiley)
    • Honeycomb: In layman’s term “Support of Views within views”. That’s what we have done in the Eden. The Panel system allows for 100s of panel instances, which are views within views (in further simpler words independent windows on-screen). When you’ll install any native application, you will get the feel and UI of the new Android (we are extremely happy that there is far less gloss and web 2.0 designs now). Memory management is something we have spoken about earlier, and was expected in 3.0 as well.

I must say that I am very impressed. For more information please visit their website and their latest blog post. Here and Here

Since Nexus S is coming out with Android 2.3 on December 16th. Google today pushed Android OS 2.3 upgrade to Nexus One as well. Many Nexus One owners , developers and also one of my android twitter friends @Agent_M waited for this OS update for long, long time.

Now that Android 2.3 is rolled out OTA (Over the air) to Nexus One, there are some cool features that will be included this time:

  • Better Performance on UI (User Interface)
  • Better Gaming experience
  • One touch word selection for copy and paste
  • Better Battery performance and management
  • Internet Calling (Rumors say: that Google Chat will have Video Integration as well)

For more Android 2.3 features please visit Android Developers press release.

Long waited Androd 2.3 Gingerbread has been released to public and SDK tool has been updated too. As soon as Nexus S news was released by Samsung, Android  immediately followed up with the press release.

Highlights:

Enhancements for game development: To improve overall responsiveness, we’ve added a new concurrent garbage collector and optimized the platform’s overall event handling. We’ve also given developers native access to more parts of the system by exposing a broad set of native APIs. From native code, applications can now access input and sensor events, EGL/OpenGL ES, OpenSL ES, and assets, as well a new framework for managing lifecycle and windows. For precise motion processing, developers can use several new sensor types, including gyroscope.

Rich multimedia: To provide a great multimedia environment for games and other applications, we’ve added support for the new video formats VP8 and WebM, as well as support for AAC and AMR-wideband encoding. The platform also provides new audio effects such as reverb, equalization, headphone virtualization, and bass boost.

New forms of communication: The platform now includes support for front-facing camera, SIP/VOIP, and Near Field Communications (NFC), to let developers include new capabilities in their applications.

More:

  • One-touch word selection and copy/paste
  • Improved power management
  • Control over applications
  • New ways of communicating

You can read more about it here and here.

@T-Mobile just asked on Twitter: “If I could design the perfect Android phone, it would be able to ___?”  I answered that question before to many that asked, but here it goes again just for @T-Mobile since I am their long term customer.

Dear T-Mobile,

My perfect Android smarthpone would have 4 inch display so I don’t have to go and cry why other friends have 7 inch tablets when my smartphone is just 3 inches smaller.  Since I get to review at least 5 android powered phones a month, I am sick of looking at Android 2.1, but Android OS 2.2 so far is good . Don’t get me wrong, I am still waiting for some Gingerbread too! (Android 2.3).

I love taking photos and I think having DSLR with me or point and shoot camera at all times does not make any sense.

I would really love to have a smartphone that has at least 8MP camera WITH Flash, Carl Zeiss lens and should be able to take 720p-1080p HD videos.

So far your competitor that I will not mention has smartphone called Droid X Smile ,has almost all of those features, yet I am still customer for the 5th year.

Update: And just to mention, perfect phone could also have front facing camera that has capability to take upon your new HSPA+ network. Tegra 2 is out, that could be nice to have in “perfect” phone, but then again I think that kind of perfect phone I am asking for will not come out for at least 2 years.

Now my questions:

Is there anything like perfect phone? –Personally I don’t think so you have millions of customers and satisfying at least 40% of them is enough, remember the old G1 days? Smile
