Sony is probably the biggest and best Japanese electronic company out there. Yes, the company has fallen on hard times lately due to… eh, the Playstation Network for starters, as well as releasing a whole range of lackluster phones, and the latest Final Fantasy… (Sony has a 10% stake in the company) … But since the Playstation Network’s evisceration, and the small problem in leaking millions of users credit card numbers and other personal information, it seems that Sony has finally started to go back to its old ways of producing tonnes of cool technology. This funny- hip-flaskesque-clam-DS inspired tablet, is one of the pieces of technology to keep an eye out for.

The Sony S2 is a moderately sized tablet, which has the advantage of being folded in half, like a DS, as you can see from the above picture, providing extra portability, and giving your screen an additional layer of protection. While we don’t know much about the screen’s more technical specifications, such as contrast ratio, Sony has announced that the screens are 5.5″,  a resolution of 1024×480 and multicapacitive touch. Your two screens will be powered by a nVidia Tegra 2 chip, in development to be significantly more powerful than the Tegra currently found in the current Samsung Galaxy Tablet. This Tegra 2 is definitely not just for word processing, considering that the device is Playstation certified, just like the Xperia Play. Playstation Apps can easily be run and played on the powerful tablet, battery life has yet to be commented on though.

Running on the latest version of Android, Honeycomb, the Sony S2 also features the usual trapping of modern tablets, 3G/4G support (if you pay more obviously), Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, etc. etc. as well as a cute touch, where an infrared sensor is included to allow the S2 to interact with other Sony devices. A single rear facing camera is also exhibited, but specifications on them have yet to be commented on.

There’s a lot more that needs to be revealed about the S2, before I’d advise buying one though, such as Battery Life, Accelerometer, Memory Capacity… maybe even what the S2 will actually be called first. After all, no-one wants to carry around a device called the Sony Sashimi.

Google has finally released its Android 3.2 Honeycomb SDK. This is the same mobile operating system which is being used by Motorola Xoom and Huawei’s Media Pad. Now developers will enjoy support and optimization for more tablets, with the help of Honeycomb. As of now, only the SDK is launched but the tools for the SDK will be released later.

The release includes many subtle but useful changes. In the 3.2 version better customization as well as optimization of applications is available for various screen sizes and not just the 10.1 inch one. The new Android has a new ‘zoom to fill’ feature which will render the user interface of a fixed-size app on a smaller screen area, and then scale the pixels up to fill space available on current screen area.

With the help of this recent update, users will be able to load media files directly from an SD card (but off course the tablet should facilitate one), and load it straight to applications that use them. All the tablets running on Android will now support extended screen support API, which will provide the developers with even more precise control over the interface. This will also enable targeting of screens using their dimensions. With all these enhancements, the new API is rated ‘13’ which is one higher than the Android 3.1 version.

A month ago, Huawei launched its Media Pad and claimed it to be the first tablet with Android 3.2 Honeycomb and a dual core processor. Motorola also has started to deliver the Android 3.2 Honeycomb system in its tablet Xoom. Other candidates running on Android which are likely to follow are the Galaxy Tab 10.1, Acer’s Iconia Tab 500 and Toshiba’s Thrive.

Ever since Facebook became a deca-billion dollar construct, spawning companies which are worth billions of dollars in their own right (Zynga), there have been many attempts to dethrone this almighty social networking juggernaut. As we all know by now, Google+ is the Californian based company’s social network foray into the basically monopolized market. I’m not going into specifics here, but it basically looks like… Facebook, except, it’s not Facebook.

That’s not the point though. Currently, Google has just posted a Google+ application to the app store. It’s pending approval currently, while no approval process was necessary for the Android marketplace, for obvious reasons. Other information confirmed by Google, is that the application is not only for iPhones, iPod and iPad users can rejoice that they haven’t been forgotten by the search engine superpower.

Google is also releasing an Application Programming Interface for Google+, which will allow developers to create applications for Google+. Allowing software to interact with the service, as well as people, this API will certainly provide a greater amount of flexibility for users to exploit.

A couple of screenshots exhibit the features of Google+, including the much touted ‘Circles’ feature, where you can direct messages, and view messages only from particular social groups. There is also integration with Gmail, and GoogleTalk- perhaps a nice selling point about the social network in general.

In other news, remember that old site Myspace? The decaying site was just sold by its parent company for $35 million, a pittance compared to what it was originally worth. Even online newshub, ‘Huffington Post’ was sold for much much more. It serves as a reminder that perhaps, even Facebook might lose its grip on the Social Networking market.

Check out Google+ here

Once, there was a backyard lawn that grew a multitude of plants including, sweet peas, corn, walnuts and sunflowers. However, after an arcane ritual went wrong, causing a devastating plague to sweep over humanity, causing zombification, your plants mutated somehow providing you with a cure against the undead disease as well as becoming your first line of defense against your brain hungry neighbors. In other words, Plants vs Zombies.

The company behind Plants vs Zombies, Popcap Games has been reported by TechCrunch as being under an acquisition process, with offers reportedly reaching over a billion dollars, unfortunately, the possible buyer has not been named yet. Possible suitors by TechCrunch comment that Zynga could have been a possible buyer, but with the Facebook game company’s comparatively low market capitalization, it would certainly be a colossal purchase for them. EA has been hinted at as a possible suitor too, and with its recent purchase of Playfish, EA does seem to be a contender in the acquisition of Popcap Games.

But, with comparatively small market capitalization versus the asking price of $1 billion, it also seems unlikely that EA will pick up the company. That leaves the ‘big 3′ so to say, Microsoft, Google and Apple. Microsoft seems like the most likely purchaser, after all, the massive company already does own an entire console, and the operating system that most games run on. Purchasing Popcap would allow the company to take another step in its plan of gaming domination.

Apple certainly does have the money to purchase Popcap, but it seems slightly unlikely that they would have reason to purchase Popcap Games. Some of the companies products have been released in the App Store anyway, such as Plants vs Zombies anyway. Purchasing Popcap to use as an exclusive application developer seems excessive, considering the huge numbers of willing developers to contribute to the App Store.

And then there’s Google, with their Android devices. Like the other two big companies, money really isn’t an issue here. However, they could use Popcap games to create a ‘killer app’ of sorts, to attract more users to Android phones in general, and embrace the market place. But with the market share of Android phones growing rapidly, it seems that Google won’t feel the need to purchase Popcap games to bolster their already accessible lineup.

Popcap games has refused to comment on these ‘rumors’ at this point in time. But expect a big announcement from the indie games developer soon.

Yesterday android released Android 2.3.4 OS also known as Gingerbread. While majority of Android users will have to wait for this update, Nexus S owners can install it on their smartphone without any problems.

In this Android 2.3.4 version you will be able to use Video Chat that is integrated with Google Talk (GChat) but it also includes the Android 2.3.3 fixes which you can read more about it from Android Website >>

Anyway, those that own Nexus S here is the link where you can download Android 2.3.4 and install it on top of what you currently have. Just to be safe, please backup all your pictures etc to pc before you do any of this.

http://android.clients.google.com/packages/ota/google_crespo/a14a2dd09749.signed-soju-GRJ22-from-GRI40.a14a2dd0.zip

As you can see above, it is a ZIP file, so download that zip file to your pc. After the download is completed, rename the zip file to update.zip.

Connect your Nexus S to your pc via usb, and place the update.zip on your internal memory root folder.

Now, turn off your Nexus S, ……. turn it back on and hold Volume UP + Power Button you should get to recovery screen at this point. Now you should see on your screen where it says “Update”? navigate to that with your volume buttons and then once you have “update” selected click on power button (dont hold it) click it…

You will see some screens going back and forth… after the whole thing is done, you should be running on Android 2.3.4!!

Sweet, eh?

PS: I would NOT RECOMMEND this update to be installed on any other phone other than Nexus S.

Thanks to XDA’s and Techoncept for image.

With all of the new and VERY complicated smartphones and tablets, productivity apps have become immensely popular and useful for the average smartphone owner. However, many people don’t know much about the top productivity applications

Productivity can be interpreted differently by different people. It’s direct definition is “the quality of being productive or having the power to produce” which overall, basically means the ability to get things done quickly and stress-free. Here are the top 5 productivity applications for iOS and Android smartphones and a brief summary of each.

iOS  Productivity Apps

1. Tips & Tricks – iPhone Secrets

This $0.99 application is mainly directed towards those iPhone users that aren’t very tech savvy or have never owned an iPhone before. It is essential information in over 120 written tips and free updates with each revision of iOS. The great thing about this app is they keep it new and current. Some of the tips are advanced ones that you would not find on your own.

2. Flashlight

This is the #1 free productivity app store application. It is the most basic, easy to use flashlight that uses the LED flash to its fullest ability. The only downside to this app is that it can burn up your battery if the flashlight is turned on for too long. Strobe/Blinking mode is also supported and best of all its free.

3. JotNot Scanner Pro

Out of all of these applications JotNot Scanner is my favorite. This $0.99 app gives you the ability to scan and save documents, receipts, whiteboards and more all from your iPhone! However, this is not like a photo app at all. It makes your photo a clear black and white document, but you can also have the picture in color. Overall, this app is very useful and can help anyone out that wants to keep and save documents easily.

4. Week Calendar

This $1.99 application is pretty much a better and more equipped version of iCal for your iPhone or iPod touch. Week Calendar provides a calendar overview with a better day, week, and month overview. This application is directed towards the type of people that need to keep track of what they’re doing and when they are doing it.

5. iTranslate ~ the free translator

iTranslate is the best Universal Translator on the App Store today. It includes over 50 languages, Voice recognition, Conversation Mode, 18 free voices, Dictionaries, save & copy, and Landscape mode. Whether you’re doing your language homework in school or just wondering what a certain word or phrase means this is the app for you! Best of all its free!

Android Productivity Apps

1. Root Explorer

This app is just $3.97 and Root Explorer is the ultimate file manager for root users. Access the whole of android’s file system (including the elusive data folder!). Additional features include SQLite database viewer, Text Editor, create and extract zip or tar/gzip files, multi-select, and many more!

2. Swift Key

SwiftKey is a great $1.99 application for anyone look for an easier to type on keyboard. From the Android Store “SwiftKey Keyboard uses AI technology to make typing smart, fast and personal.” This app is innovative, useful, and very easy to use.

3. ADWLauncher EX

ADWLauncher EX is an awesome way to tweak your phone without any rooting or hacking needed. Just $3.35 to tweak your Android desktop. It comes with hundreds of themes, Icons editor to create your own customized shortcuts, and a customizable main dock. ADWLauncher EX is different from ADW.Launcher in that it has a lot of new additions and improvements.

4. ezPDF Reader

ezPDF Reader is a simple, $0.99 app that basically is a PDF Reader! One addition is that it plays both video and audio. One cool thing you can do with this app is called Freehand draw. It says to just long click on the screen to activate and you can change the color and thickness of the line. Pretty cool, right?

5. JuiceDefender Ultimate

Last but certainly not least is JuiceDefender Pro. This app is kind of pricy at $5.09 but still seems like a very great application for those that are having batter problems. It gives you “Absolute control over your battery” and includes wifi control, 2G/3G control and many more!

All 10 of these apps are great productivity apps for many different types of people on two different platforms.

What are your favorite types of productivity apps? Let us know and comment!

It’s 2011 I know! and best android phone in 2011 in our opinion is going to be Droid Bionic which release date has not been announced yet.
From what we have tested so far (21 android smartphones) Droid Bionic will be the coolest and most powerful android phone there is in 2011.

Why?

Well first of all it has dual core processor, seconds of all it will feature 8MP camera on the back like Droid Incredible back in 2010 and this time this android Smartphone will have front facing camera with 2 megapixels which will increase the better quality video sharing via apps like Skype, Tango and other video conferencing android apps.

How can we say which android phone is going to be the best in 2011? Well from what we heard so far, no phones are coming out with dual core or 8mp camera at least not until Q4. Droid Bionic is coming out between June-July to compete with new iPhone 5. Device is already built is just that Motorola is waiting for iPhone 5 to be announced so they can compete at the same time.

Another phone we liked is called HTC Thunderbolt, it is going to be 1Ghz processor but very powerful hardware, and from what we heard it should run on Android Honeycomb or version 2.4 which is for mobile phones only.

Anyway, we might revise this post a bit , so if you got few months time, do wait for HTC Thunderbolt and Droid Bionic because those two are going to rock this year.

My android lovers you think I would let you down for Oscars? You can watch 2011 Oscar live video streaming on your android device for free too.

All you really have to do is download app called Livestream or Skyfire (Flash Browser) and head over to http://livestream.com/theoscars via Skyfire and in Livestream app just search for The Oscars and you should get to the page you wanted to see.

We’re all aware of the fact that both Honeycomb and Xoom are powerful tablets but Google still wants to ensure that developers are able to exploit this power and “cripple” every piece of hardware, using the software to its fullest with the aim of making the most out of the device.

So what is Google going to do?

Google is working on improving its Renderscript API (detailing low-level API to be more technical/specific). The major when working with a low-level API, is the fact that it’s especially designed for those developers who are “comfortable working closer to the metal” (as quoted on Engadget). This will allow developers to build applications or even games that are able to make best use of the high-end GPU’s and powerful dual-core processors found in the latest Honeycomb tablets.

Google has made this API available to the public just recently; however, it has already been put to good use in Honeycomb by Google. Examples include, the YouTube and Books applications, even the live wallpapers were created using it.

I have been watching all types of shows on my Android and now it’s time to let you know how to watch 2011 Super Bowl on Android, easy way!

First, if you know already which website is going to air live 2011 Super Bowl then my suggestion for you is to get an App called Skyfire. Skyfire is Browser that allows you to watch Flash Videos. I used Skyfire Browser before to watch World Cup and many other shows.

I heard that few might going to air Super Bowl on Ustream it looks legit see NFL Channel,

There is an app called Ustream Viewer, so go to your Android Market Store, search for “Ustream Viewer” and then before the game starts ( Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Green Bay Packers) open that app up and see who is streaming Super Bowl 2011 game. If you just want to see those commercials then after the game head over to YouTube , they will air all commercials.

As Technology changes rapidly, there are lots of new devices that come into the market. Whenever we go to buy any device on the market we always get overwhelmed by the available choices. Here I am going to give you the Best Android Smartphone features so it makes it easier for you to choose a Smartphone according to your requirement.

HTC EVO 4G:

HTC EVO 4G was launched in June 2010 and was the first 4G Smartphone. It is based on Android 2.1 platform. It has 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 512 MB RAM, 1GB ROM. It has 4.8 ‘’x 2.6’’ x 0.5’’ inches dimensions. The first attractive feature of HTC EVO 4G has as large touch screen i.e. 4.3’’-inch WVGA resolution Capacitive Multi-touch Screen display which good for people who like browsing. The other attractive feature is 4G (Forth Generation) which offers the highest consistent downstream data speeds. The HTC EVO 4G can still connect to 3G data services in areas not currently served by Sprint’s 4G network.

The HTC EVO 4G has 8-megapixel dual focus camera–itself an exciting point-for photos and HD video capture. There is also a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera, which is used for video chat and self portraits. HTC EVO has built-in mobile hotspot functionality, it also allows up to eight Wi-Fi-enabled devices to share the 3G or 4G experience, including camera, music player, video player, laptop and any other Wi-Fi-enabled device. It provides many Google mobile services like Google Search, Google Maps, Google Talk, Gmail, Google calendar etc. It’s comes with a microSD card slot included 8 GB and support up to 32 GB.

There are other exiting feature like digital audio player and FM radio, full HTML web browser, Build in Kickstand for hand free viewing, Adobe Flash Support, Bluetooth connectivity version 2.1, GPS using Spring navigation, Messaging both personnel and business email, instant messaging and text messaging .It provides 6 hour battery life.

For highly mobile professionals and IT administrator who want advance features, very high speed data connection,  this Smartphone becomes a first choice.

Samsung Vibrant:

Samsung Vibrant is the T-Mobile version of popular Samsung Galaxy S and was launched in March 2010 .It is based on Android 2.2 platform. It has a 4’’ -inch Super AMOLED Touch Screen display which is its best feature.
