AT&T is gearing up to launch 4G LTE services in five markets namely Dallas, Houston, Chicago, Atlanta and San Antonio as confirmed by a press release, this morning. The LTE services in these five cities will begin as early as this summer. AT&T has plans to extend its service to ten more cities (AT&T has not disclosed the names of these cities) by second half of the year with plans to reach the 70 million users mark by year end. AT&T has so far invested $75 billion in the wireless and wired networks over the last four years and they further plan to invest another $19 million to strengthen their network in order to gain more customers and hence more market share.

Not only this AT&T has also stated in its press release that it will be adding around 20 devices to its arsenal but it is still unclear whether all of them will be capable of running on its 4G LTE network. AT&T is trying to catch up to its rival Verizon Wireless which still claims market supremacy. Verizon had been quite quick in building its 4G LTE network  (spread over 38 markets) and managed to grab the early and largest pie of the market but AT&T is planning to catch up to its rival and plans to get full deployment by the year 2013.

Here is a list of devices that support 4G

  • HTC Sensation 4G, HTC Inspire 4G, HTC Thunderbolt 4G,HTC Evo 4G,
  • Samsung Infuse 4G, Samsung Galaxy S 4G, Samsung Droid Charge, Samsung Epic 4G
  • Motoroal Atrix 4G
  • HP Veer 4G
  • Samsung Galaxy Tab 4G, Blackberry Playbook 4G, HTC Max 4G

Our friends at Android Central today released a leaked AT&T screenshot showing Motorola Atrics 4G release date to be March 1st 2011. Status in the picture shows as pre-launch so that could also be that pre-order will start on March 1st and lets say the release date would be somewhere between 2nd-3rd week in March.

I guess we shouldn’t follow too many  rumors like this one, because 70% of the time such rumors are false.

If you want to find out more about Motorola Atrix 4G please do go to official website and checkout the dual-core smartphone which is going to sell like crazy this year.

Few people asked me today if they can use ATT iPhone 4 on Verizon, and simple answer to that question is No.

What you should consider before switching and also on the day when iPhone 4 is released (February 10th)

According to Verizon Event today, iPhone 4 should be in stores and available for pre-order online after February 10th which means you should go to Verizon or Apple store. To pre-order online just visit www.verizonwireless.com  links should be front page.

What to check before switching over from another carrier?

Check when is your 1 or 2 year contract due?  – My suggestion is always to call the customer service but most carriers nowadays do display that on page. Att for example:  Login to your account click on Biil&Payments — View Account Profile — User Profile  and check out the Contract End Date under “Contract Information”

So what if you have year left? well easy to calculate how much you will pay to cancel the contract is to calculate like this:

If you own an iPhone 4 you will pay $325 – $10 for each month you were on contract, so if you bought your iPhone 4 in June 2010 take off $10×7 months = $70  and then $325 – $70 = $255

If you own any other phone you will pay $175 – $5 for each month and if you bought your phone before June 1st 2010 then you will pay $150 –$4 for each month.

Does that make any sense? Smile Riiiight! Just go and call your customer service, they will tell you exactly how much you will owe and probably give you some good deals to stay with them.

Call your local Verizon Wireless store before February 10th and ask them if they will have iPhone 4 on sale February 10th, also don’t forget to ask them what documents and paperwork you will need. Its always good to consult with other carriers before you even buy any phones.

Check if your current cell phone number is portable from ATT/Tmobile/US Cellular to Verizon by going to Verizon Port Check.

What’s the data plan difference between ATT and Verizon vs T-Mobile. Well that’s a bit tough question, but most likely for individual you will be looking at $70 per month at least and family plans are around $129-$150 (2 lines) and up. Go to VerizonWireless website, check the plans now, but don’t forget to check them again between February 3rd-10th … they might change the pricing!

Well that’s about it folks, now all it’s left is the wait time…

So here in house we quick tested iPhone 3GS vs Samsung Galaxy Tab internet speed test. At first I thought there is no way that iPhone 3GS (with 3G ATT) is faster than Samsung Galaxy Tab (with 3G Verizon) but I was wrong.

We tested it multiple time, turning all apps off on Samsung Galaxy Tab and the speed tests were quite different.

Samsung Galaxy Tab: 220-240kbps

iPhone 3GS: 620-660kbps

This speed test is performed on one site, we will do some digging into this and report on this article after the break. But for now iPhone 3GS is winner when it comes to Internet Speed Test.

AT&T in the present day reiterated rising signs that this iPhone’s US exceptional contract was approaching to a conclusion. CFO Richard Lindner on this UBS Media as well as Communications seminar on Tuesday worried that there were no similar object as an enduring exclusive as well as that the corporation had a variety of phones for picking. “Special preparations end,” he supposed.

He didn’t give details, however at present it’s being considered progressively more likely as the AT&T’s special will finish on the the beginning stage of 2011 as well as show the way to the Verizon iPhone contract in a little while afterwords. A small number of hints have been representative, however AT&T dropped probable clues while it approximately doubled termination fees as well as extended promote eligibility for including the entire of 2010. The joint gestures would obtain more clients on to fresh, two-year deals otherwise else create it difficult for new clients to switch.

Lindner as well brought up the topic of tiered cost on smartphones as well as acknowledged that limiting data was the further “difficult choice” AT&T had to take. AT&T identified that most clients would prefer limitless, however he declared that the 2GB limit was needed for keeping use in confirm. He joined that the tiering can change as well as can bring in additional tiers as apps distorted the usual data handling.

About 7 million customers are by now using the limited plans, the CFO supposed. Some deliberately fall from $30 limitless to $25 capped as well as potentially lesser AT&T’s standard data income, however the $15 tier is “very successful” as well as got some for signing up for the data where they will not have done consequently before. Cellular entrance has a restricted quantity of wireless range as well as couldn’t receive on the offered workload of the DSL.

I am not sure how much “pull” Consumer Reports has on a business, but I am pretty sure you never want to be named the worst of anything by the non-profit consumer review magazine.  According to a report based on the poll of 58,000 readers of Consumer Reports, AT&T is the worst cellphone carrier out of the 5 US carriers polled.

According to the data, there are a lot of “black circles” on the AT&T line of the report.  If you don’t know, the black circles are what Consumer Reports use to indicate a “worst” for the category in question.  Out of the nine items they look at AT&T has EIGHT black circles.  That is not good for anyone let alone a huge mobile phone provider for the United States.

You might ask yourself how many of those polled actually own an iPhone right?  Well according to the data, 50% of those polled own a version of the iPhone.  So at least you know this study isn’t just from a bunch of haters.  It’s folks that deal with the lost signals, bum customer service agents and random charges on their bills.

Of course you know that people needed to hear from AT&T on this deal and what do you think they said?  I would say it was close to the normal, typical corporate answer to a dilemma that could tank any business and it went a little like this, “We take this seriously and we continually look for new ways to improve the customer service.”

If you are an iPhone user, how do you feel about this study?  Do you have confidence in what the study from Consumer Reports found?

T-Mobile and AT&T makes available first Windows Phone 7-based handsets in the U.S. market from Monday. HTC Surround and Samsung Focus will be available with AT&T network and HTC HD7 will make its way with the T-Mobile carrier.

Windows Phone 7 was officially announced last month.

The launch of these three handsets on two carriers marks new beginning in the smartphone market for Microsoft. The Windows Phone 7 platform is different and much advanced than the older Mobile Operating Systems of Windows.

AT&T will make available the HTC Surround and Samsung Focus on November 8th for purchase through its stores and also the official website of the network. The customers of AT&T will not be able to pre-order the handsets, as officially announced by the carrier few days before. The two carriers, however, have put up dedicated web pages on their websites for the handsets after the announcement of October 11th by Microsoft of launching WP7 handsets to the U.S. market.

The handsets are available at $199 by the carriers upon a two-year contract agreement.

The big question for the success of Windows Phone 7 handsets in the U.S. market goes unanswered as there are other popular smartphones and operating systems such as BlackBerry, Android and iPhone.

WP7 has already proved to be popular in several other markets across the world. It had also went out of stock in some of the markets. It is expected to see similar result in the U.S. market too provided the handsets attracts users.

We heard a lot about Verizon iPhone. Now it seems we can see it shortly. Different publishing media offers some kind of confirmation of iPhone getting the platform of Verizon network. Official confirmation has not yet arrived though.

It is learned that in early 2011 the Verizon 3G CDMA network will offer iPhones. This part of the information means that the device won’t work outside United States. There are more details to it and interesting too about the Verizon-Apple relationship and decision-making process of iPhone on Verizon.

According to Fortune magazine, Verizon President Lowell McAdam said that he had told Apple’s Steve Jobs of doing business together, taking into consideration about the dropped calls on the network of AT&T. Though earlier the two did not agreed, but McAdam asked to have another discussion to make sure nothing is being missed by the two mobile industry giants. It is reported that Steve Jobs said that McAdam is right and they are missing something.

Is the missing part a CDMA iPhone? Seems yes, if we consider the signs.

The New York Times as well as The Wall Street Journal published news that iPhone will be finally coming to United States’ largest wireless carrier by early 2011. There are some more clues to the fact. Apple has already placed massive orders of CDMA chips. More to this, Verizon is staffing up call centers in January. Also, AT&T is offering early upgrade before losing the exclusivity of the handset. The last clue is the arrival of Apple’s iPad on Verizon this month.

The whole country is waiting for the Verizon iPhone to hit the market, except AT&T. In terms of connectivity in US, people prefer Verizon Wireless and not AT&T. Added advantage to this, the first choice of people would be Verizon iPhone 4 which will not be with the AT&T users.

We all know that Nexus One (Google Phone) was quite competitive phone, but rumor is that Samsung is making Nexus Two or It might be called Nexus S.

Thanks to few tipsters from our friends at Droid-Life and Android-and-Me rumor started that Samsung is making the next version of Nexus One called Nexus Two. Previous version of Nexus One was made by HTC and sold by Google a.k.a Google Phone, but early this year it was discontinued. Many Android App developers still own Nexus One because you could use it almost with any carrier that was not on CDMA network. Fist carrier that was hit with Nexus One was T-Mobile and we believe that Nexus Two or Nexus S will be sold by T-Mobile fist and then maybe ATT, Vodaphone, Rogers etc..

There is no strong evidence that Nexus Two will be arriving to Sprint or Verizon as those two carriers are on CDMA network, but you never know! Samsung keep surprising us with gadgets lately!

Another rumor is that this device should be introduced on November 8th and apparently it will run on Android 2.3. Specs for this phone are very to little known but many speculated that it will be similar to Droid X which is 4” size, 1Ghz Hummingbird Processor and as I said earlier with Android 2.3.

Let us know what your thoughts are in the comments section below…

Apple’s latest iPhone 3,2 was assumed to be the Verizon (CDMA-compatible) phone. It is rumored and informed through a reliable source to “boy genius” that the said device hit the “AP: testing stage. Generally this “AP”test stage is the one happens just before to its release. It means the device reached to all its final hardware and final software status and soon will be ready for retail release.

The iPhone 3,2 device contains a SIM card slot. Perhaps the facility is for:

• It is heard that the latest device could accommodate CDMA+GSM+HSPA, that means it would support Verizon, AT&T and some other worldwide iPhone carriers frequencies quite comfortably. This is indicating that the Verizon Wireless subscribers and AT&T subscribers will have the same device.

• There is a possibility that this iPhone 3,2 could be a CDMA-phone along with a capacity to hold another SIM for global roaming.

• Also, there is a possibility that this device is designed in a way that all the earlier antenna issues will not be having any chance to trouble as it did for other models.

If the information is true and sources are reliable, it is indicating that the much hyped device is soon going to see the light. Is there any chance for this holiday season?

A sudden announcement has come from both Verizon and AT&T today. The both will start selling iPad from their stores from Thursday Oct.28th. Here, Verizon will offer the device in conjunction with its MiFi mobile hot spots.

Verizon Store:

Verizon will offer all the six models of iPad. Here, Verizon is planned to sell three Wi-Fi models with its Verizon MiFi 2200 Intelligent Mobile Hotspot router for a suggested retail price of $629.99 for iPad Wi-Fi 16GB+MiFi, $279.99 For iPad Wi-Fi 32GB +MiFi and $829.99 for iPad Wi-Fi 64GB +MiFi.

John Stratton, Chief Operating officer for Verizon said in this context as “This is the perfect pairing for holiday travels. IPad together with nation’s largest and most reliable 3G data network allows customers to easily connect on the go wherever they are”.

The MiFi in the picture can be seen how small it is to fit in a pocket and allows users to create a personal Wi-Fi cloud capable of sharing the High-Speed internet connectivity of the Verizon Wireless 3G Mobile Broadband network with up to five Wi-Fi enabled devices. The MiFi is equipped with a rechargeable battery and it can last up to four hours continuous usage and offers 40 hours standby time on single charge.

According to a recent report released by Credit Suisse, despite losing its iPhone exclusivity, AT&T will still manage to retain 63% of its iPhone customer base, although only 20% of them consider AT&T service to be satisfactory. 26% expect the service to improve while 17% will stick with AT&T due to corporate or family plans.

However, 28% customers will desert AT&T to go for Verizon, Sprint or T-Mobile, which will gain 23%, 3% and 2% of the outgoing customer base respectively. With iPhone, Verizon is expected to gain as many as 4 million new subscribers in 2011, while AT&T will manage to keep its base flat. Credit Suisse has also suggested that app. 8.1 million Verizon users are interested in lapping up iPhone as and when it becomes available with the carrier. However, only 3% of the AT&T customers are willing to go to the length of breaking their contract with AT&T and team up with Verizon. Seems like, 2011 is going to be one hectic year for both the carriers.

As we suspected and wrote few weeks ago that Samsung Galaxy Tab will go to T-Mobile. Sure we had doubts that it will go to Verizon first but with Samsung Galaxy S going to T-Mobile first our conclusion was that it will first arrive at T-Mobile and then rest of the carriers like AT&T and Verizon.
