NewsZela which comes from name Vuvuzela is a news aggregator that pulls latest news in Technology, Business, Sports and Entertainment. NewsZela was build by me as a side project but, I decided to put it out to public .

How can  NewsZela benefit You:

  • Search News by specific keyword
  • Create News the way you like it and only get news you want to know about
  • Read popular stories that are voted by others and You
  • You get fresh news every 2 hours
  • Registration takes only 10 second and allows you to vote and search for news more in depth
  • (Soon) If English is not your first language, I am building NewsZela in 15 different languages

What is so special about NewsZela vs other aggregators?

NewsZela pulls news from only top sites or sites with quality content.

You can register with NewsZela and pull and manage news by specific topic.

You can vote for the news just like you can vote on Digg

image

If two or more sources write about the same topic, NewsZela combines them for you into one section

Reason I was searching to build something like NewsZela is because I was sick and tired of Google Reader.News you read are reposted (reblogged) by top news blogs, and there was no way to combine those news in Google Reader. Google News has lots of resources and a lot of spam resources too that provide you low quality content, NewsZela has less resources but its frequently updated with top quality content.

So what’s next?

Well I will try to code some things like, building points, adding new sources, get the latest news in your language for start we are going to translate NewsZela in French, Spanish, German and Chinese language.

II want to thank Josh Heilman (also a co-worker) for creating the cool Logo for NewsZela.

Please leave feedback in commenting section below about NewsZela and let us know how I can improve it to suit your needs of reading daily news.

MG Siegler known as Paris Lemon on Twitter posted an article yesterday about RSS being dead, that article made lots of debate around the social media and blogosphere, but MG is known for writing such articles that’s why he is one of the top writers at TC.

Anyway, I left him a comment saying that RSS feeds can not be compared to Facebook and Twitter traffic and therefore RSS feeds are not dead.

Thing is that regular people that are not into technology  love to read two or three tech blogs and most likely don’t even know what RSS means or what the official Icon for RSS is, therefore they subscribe via

  • Email Newsletter
  • Facebook (Fan Page)
  • Twitter (follow accounts)

But then you have geeks like me who has over 300 tech blogs in RSS feeds (Google Reader) and they are all sub-categorized in folders  (Phone Blogs, Android Blogs, Windows Blogs, Apple Blogs …etc)

RSS feeds is never going to be dead unless Google shuts down Feedburner and even then, I could subscribe to blog.com/feed

To be honest, you can’t compare RSS feed to any social media website service because 140 or 350 characters for me at least is not enough to know exactly what am I about to click or read.

Fred from AVC wrote also some good points which you can read here, he also put out some graphical information which you might like.

Anyway, what do you think? Is RSS dead? If so , why? (Leave your responses in the commenting section below)

Today I am sick and can’t think straight nor am I productive and Internet is a part of my life that helps me take away my thoughts on how sick I am today. Well I was glad to find out it’s not H1N1 because I don’t have H1N1 symptoms. So I am basically stuck with regular flu and will return to my work tomorrow without infecting more of my co-workers (I hope).

So what did I do today on Internet and which sites did I visit while laying down in bed?

Netflix and Hulu – Great websites to spend few hours watching movies, documentary movies and great motivator to fall a sleep easier. For those that don’t have netflix account, I would recommend Hulu.

Laughing and than maybe cough or two isn’t that bad, to get those two together I usually head over to College Humor, great website mostly for men I would say.  If you are a gal my recommendation is CuteOverload.com just look at those funny fluffy, furry things makes me laugh and say “Awww”. And for both sex genders I would recommend YouTube and just search for banned commercials, funny, Dan Cook, funny animals, jokes or my favorite video Numa Numa Guy.

Now if you are geek like I am Google Reader is best thing that takes few hours away from your life. Subscribe to sites like MWD (wink, wink) or Slashdot, Mashable, Read Write Web there is thousands of them more that are good maybe Techmeme or Tweetmeme can help you find few hundreds of them.

Shopaholics?

Who does not like to shop when is sick? – Sites like Woot.com, SlickDeals, TechDeals or TechSpot are really good.

I also love to visit Amazon from time to time or Buy.com because they have daily/weekly deals that are just unbeatable. Downside of shopping online when sick, it makes you feel good (at least shopaholics say that) but when you check your checking and savings account few days later you get sick to your stomach right?

Good thing in America is that you still have 14 days to return stuff back :) or 90 days if you shop stuff at Walmart!

Anyways that is how I spend some of my sick days but don’t forget about social networking sites like Twitter where you can tweet every caugh  and every vomit you did and you get replies like “Ewww” or “Hope you feel better” yeah I know it’s just text right? Facebook isn’t bad either but you might want to watch out what your status updates are.

Well after posting this I already feel better!

PS: Being sick , speak 5 languages trust me English is not on my side today so if you find grammar mistakes don’t mind …thanks!
