Have you ever wanted to change up or “pimp” your home screen without having to jailbreak your iDevice? Well now you can with an app called “Pimp Your Screen” by Apalon.

What is Pimp Your Screen?

Pimp Your Screen is basically just an app that lets you customize the way your iPhone, iPod, or iPad looks. This includes App Shelves, Neon Combos, Home Screens, Icon Skins, and even a Lock Screen Maker.

Review

When you open the app you are shown four tabs which I have listed above.

The first tab, App Shelves are basically just customized backgrounds. There are many types of App Shelves given, here are two of them:

Neon Combos includes a lot of really cool wallpapers with many colors and designs that would give your iPhone that outstanding effect its always needed.

Home Screens are also a lot of wallpapers that give your iPhone some extra coolness. Many of the wallpapers adapt very well with the Retina Display giving it an HD effect.Icon Skins are personally my favorite. They give you many choices to what types of icon skins you want, and it blends in perfectly with the all of your downloaded apps.

Last but certainly not least is the Lock Screen Maker. It gives you the ability to change not only the screensaver but also the the color of the top and bottom bars that show the current time and the “slide to unlock.”

Overall, I think Pimp Your Screen (iTunes Link) $0.99 app would be a great buy for anyone looking to jazz up their iPhone and give it some extra color. This is what my iPhone looks like after the addition of Pimp Your Screen:

Let us know what you guys did after you bought the app and comment!

As a tech guy who has been in tech industry for over a decade now, I am always in  different places doing some sort of web-development and most of my time I spend remoting into my servers whether that is from home or some other place.

Now that technology has advanced, I can remote to my web servers and home pc’s straight from iPad 2 and iPhone 4 which I recently got for birthday (April 1st!). Today I would like to introduce you to one of the best remote applications for iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch basically any iDevice that runs on iOS 3+  and that app name is Remoter.

I downloaded bunch of remote apps for my iPad 2 and waisted my money so to say, but with Remoter everything paid it self off.

Remoter (Remoter: Remote Desktop VNC – iTunes Link) application allows you to remote into ANY operating system that has VNC (I use TightVNC) or SSH.

With SSH (I am more of a linux guy) you can do pretty much everything you would do on any linux machine, it gives you all the controls that you could possibly use as you would be upfront of that PC.

Same thing goes with Windows and OS X , as I said above you can remote to any operating system, and use it just like you would use it when you are upfront of that computer.

About the GIVEAWAY:

Since I have been using Remoter for two weeks, I contacted developers and gave great feedback on what amazing application they built, in return I have been given redeem codes that will allow winners to install remoter for free. Current price on remoter is 99c which is cheap considering that other applications run for $10-$20!

To win free redeem code, all you really need to do is tweet this article , and the winner will be chosen randomly. We have 3 codes to giveaway, so your chances to win this are really high. I will chose the winner tomorrow after 5PM (CST)

Some snapshots I took of my demo servers with remoter (there is still stuff to read under pix):

Now that I got your attention, I would like to say that with this tool you can , type, move mouse, right and left click, view it full screen on iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch.

Anyway, hope you are going to win this cool remote desktop application , so tweet this and stop by tomorrow, winners will be announced via Twitter (52.000 followers) and in commenting section below.

SRS Labs announced around a week ago during a press release the latest generation of its sound enhancement hardware made especially for Apple devices.

The iWow 3D

The iWow 3D is designed to work together with the free iWow iOS app (available already for download at the App Store). It’s basically a dongle that one can connect to their iPod, iPhone or iPad’s 30-pin dock connector, and then plug a set of headphones or a 1/8 –inch cable into the iWow’s extended line-out jack.

What does it do?

According to the SRS press release, the iWow is said to retrieve and restore audio cues with the aim of providing “an immersive three-dimensional sound stage with renewed depth and clarity”, not forgetting deep bass, which make it ideal for all kinds of content that one might play on their device: music, video, games, etc.

SRS also made it clear that they will be releasing two models to the public. The first model is the iWow 3D which will retail at $70 and will just include the device on its own, whereas the second model, the iWow 3D Combo will not only include the device, but a set of in-ear headphones and four faceplates (blue, green, silver and pink). With four additional faceplates, the user will have the option to choose the one they like the most and swap it in place of the default black one.

The iWow App

The app gives the user control to choose what output device they have connected to their Apple device, i.e. headphones, speakers, etc. The “advanced settings” tab in the App allows the user to turn on and off any combination of Wide Surround, Deep Bass and High Treble options. Nevertheless, this app is only compatible with the iPod Touch, iPhone and iPad so other iPod users will only be able to use the on/off modes when connected to the iWow device.

Where can you buy it?

The iWow 3D is currently available for pre-order on the SRS Official online web store. Their press release stated that they would start selling to the public by the end of January but for some unknown reason they didn’t. In addition, the company hasn’t provided any sort of information on when they will finally be listing it for sale (not pre-order), leaving a lot of intrigued, keen buyers frustrated.

iPhone iPad and iPod Touch users are reporting to see Instant Preview on Google. Instant preview is a magnifying glass icon placed right next to the links which basically lets you preview the website before you hit the Link on Google.

Google Instant Preview is a very helpful browser tool that lets you preview a site from within the search results and also highlights the text you actually searched for.

instant preview iPhone ipad and iPod Touch

Google Instant Preview is currently available for all desktops browsers and as we said above some iOS users have been seeing same results on iPad, iPod Touch and iPhones but so far we have not seen an official statement from Google about it.

Lets assume that this new feature will be implemented shortly?

Just wanted to let you know that Apple released iOS 4.2 for iPad iPhone and iPod Touch today and should be ready for download via iTunes. So, hookup your iDevices and go to iTunes and hit that upgrade button :)

CUPERTINO, California—November 22, 2010—Apple® today announced that iOS 4.2, the latest version of the world’s most advanced mobile operating system, is available today for download for iPad™, iPhone® and iPod touch®. iOS 4.2 brings over 100 new features from iOS 4.0, 4.1 and 4.2 to iPad including Multitasking, Folders, Unified Inbox, Game Center, AirPlay® and AirPrint.

“iOS 4.2 makes the iPad a completely new product, just in time for the holiday season,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “Once again, the iPad with iOS 4.2 will define the target that other tablets will aspire to, but very few, if any, will ever be able to hit.”

iPad users can now run their favorite apps and switch between them instantly, while preserving iPad’s legendary battery life. Users can organize their apps with drag-and-drop simplicity using Folders, and Mail now features a Unified Inbox, fast inbox switching and a threaded message view.

Game Center allows iPad, iPhone and iPod touch users to challenge and play friends or be matched automatically with new opponents, showcase their scores and achievements, and discover new games their friends are playing.

AirPlay is a new feature for streaming music, video and photos wirelessly from iPad, iPhone and iPod touch to Apple TV®, transforming Apple TV into a great accessory for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch. iOS users also will be able to use AirPort Express® and AirPlay to stream wirelessly to any stereo or powered speakers, or directly to AirPlay-enabled speakers coming to market in the months ahead.

AirPrint is a next-generation Wi-Fi print architecture that dramatically simplifies printing by completely eliminating printer drivers. A selection of AirPrint enabled printers including the HP Photosmart, HP LaserJet Pro and HP Officejet will be the first to support printing direct from iOS devices. iPad, iPhone and iPod touch users can simply tap to print their documents or photos wirelessly to any printer that supports AirPrint.

The Find My iPhone (or iPad or iPod touch) feature is now free to use without a MobileMe℠ subscription and helps you locate your missing device.* The Find My iPhone app is a free download on the App Store℠ and lets users easily locate a missing device on a map and have it display a message or play a sound. Users can even remotely lock or wipe data from a lost device to protect privacy.

Other new features that iOS 4.2 brings to the iPad include: the ability to rent TV episodes directly to iPad using the iTunes® App with a 30 day viewing window and a 48 hour session window once playback is started; the ability to easily find and highlight specific words and phrases on web pages in Safari®; enhanced enterprise support so businesses can take advantage of stronger security features, new device management capabilities and improved enterprise integration; industry-leading accessibility enhancements; and support for 25 additional languages, including Korean, Portuguese and Traditional Chinese.

The revolutionary iPad allows users to connect with their apps and content in a more intimate, intuitive and fun way than ever before. You can browse the web, read and send email, enjoy and share photos, watch HD videos, listen to music, play games, read ebooks and much more, using the innovative Multi-Touch™ user interface. iPad weighs just 1.5 pounds, making it easy to carry and use anywhere.

Today, customers have downloaded more than seven billion apps from the groundbreaking App Store and more than 300,000 apps are available to consumers in 90 countries, with more than 40,000 native iPad apps. Over 125 million iOS users around the world can choose from an incredible range of apps in 20 categories, including games, business, news, sports, health, reference and travel.

Updated Article: Well we noticed that a lot of people are still searching for iPad iOS 4.2 but we wanted to just update this article and let you know that there is iOS 4.3.2 which was released today. Basically this iOS 4.3.2 fixes many bugs such as frozen videos or blank videos. In iOS 4.3.2 you also can expect to see some of the new security updates that we wont go too much into detail.

Anyway, we if you are still looking for the information on iOS 4.2 well here is the original article we wrote a while ago, but as we mentioned before, if you have iDevices our advice is to start upgrading to iOS 4.3.2 via iTunes.

Apple “officially” did not released iOS 4.2 firmware update but the release date is expected to be soon. Major update of iOS 4.2 is iPad Multitasking and ability to create folders. Thanks to our friends at RRW they obtained the unofficial copy of iOS 4.2 and installed it on their iPad.

Few notes from their site:

Multitasking: The most important new feature for iPad users in iOS 4.2 is Apple’s interpretation of multitasking

I do agree that Multitasking on iPad is very important just because iPad is being more used for productivity rather than device that will be used only to listen to music and make phone calls.

Folders: This is nothing new for iPhone owners, but iPad users can now finally organize their apps into folders as well. Folders on the iPad can hold up to 20 apps (iPhone folders can hold up to 12 apps).

ipad_folders

This was a nice touch from Apple developers, we did know that multitasking is coming to iPad but as far as creating folders to store up-to 20 apps we did not.

At this point if you are still interested in this topic I would rather have you read it from readwriteweb as they did the whole article on this iOS 4.2 update.

If you’re sick and tired of converting media for your iDevices such as iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch, you’ll be happy to know there’s an app out there to solve all of your converting woes –almost.

VLC, the popular open-source media player has recently released their player in app-form which should be incredibly exciting for media junkies who are currently relegated to Apple’s preferred file formats like .mov and .mp4.

We can’t guarantee that all media files will play but it’s pretty darn close. The VLC app works by quickly decoding common file types like .avi that didn’t play before. And, best of all, it doesn’t require much effort for the end-user.

The process is as easy as pie, simply copy over the media within the iTunes ‘File Sharing’ screen. In its newest iteration, users were given the ability to delete files directly within the app nicely eliminating the need to go back into iTunes for removal.

VLC WarningAfter testing various videos there seemed to be issue with a few large HD files, it could have been an issue with the aspect ratio or HD because it was generally happening with 1280×720 HD files. That said, the videos were only a few minutes long but apparently it just couldn’t deal with the decoding requirement.  If you run into this problem the app will let you know with the adjacent message.

VLC Media Player is free and is available for the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch via iTunes.

Here is what President Steven Chiang from Zynga Corp. said:

“We want to reach people wherever they want to play the games they love, and deliver the most fun and social experience on every platform. The iPad is a spectacular gaming device, and the new FarmVille app leverages its larger touch screen interface and enhanced graphics. FarmVille on the iPhone was an instant hit and now we are giving people another Apple device to play on.”

You can download Farmville for iPad at this location.

Apple announced Thursday the availability of new web-based calendar application MobileMe for all the subscribers officially as currently the app is out of beta veil.

To avail this calendar members need to sign in with me.com/calendar, click “upgrade now”, which is at the lower left corner of the Calendar web application and simply follow the instructions. The members that have been using the MobileMe (beta) already need not have to do anything and the beta product gets updated on its own automatically.

Apple gave further more information about the MobileMe application. It said, app was designed to integrate more fluently with the built-in calendar app on iPhones, iPads and iPod Touches by always keeping it in sync with a Mac or PC. Here, iOS will consider all the new changes or events automatically keep the calendar up to date. A meeting that is scheduled on the iOS device can be seen successfully pushed everywhere else too.

The new app also got an ability to share the calendar with one or more MobileMe members in order to keep all on the same page. For example, users can create a shared calendar called “family” for weekend activities, and then allow family members to edit events, and then receive email notification informing them those changes.

Other important feature that is teamed up with this new application is read-only public calendar. The idea behind this feature is to publish an event. For example, a child’s sports event schedule can be linked to view after the set-up and this can be sent to other team members for viewing on their iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, Mac or PC successfully.

MobileMe users also can invite guests to any event by adding their email address to the event. For this the invitees need not have to be members with the application. At the same time, guests that are received this email invitation can respond directly through the supplied link by just clicking. The event will get update through the guests’ click and this will create a facility to track RSVPs right in the calendar.

All the features tie into new web application at me.com with redesigned day, week and month views, as well as a new list view to make scanning events easier.

The new web application runs successfully on Safari 5, Firefox 3.6, and Internet Explorer 8. For compatibility with iPhone or iPad will require iOS 4.1. Mac users should be equipped with OS X 10.6.4 and PC users will need MobileMe control panel version 1.6.3 and Outlook 2007 or 2010 for the usage of the application.

Recently Yahoo has updated its Messenger iPhone app and this update enabled video calls from iPhone to a desktop successfully. Now, Apple has to allow this feature for its FaceTime standard.

On Monday the Yahoo Messenger 2.0 iPhone app update was released, adding support for video calls, voice calls and multitasking. This video calling on the free app is supported on iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS and through this a user can start video chats to Yahoo messenger users on the other devices and this will include Macs or PCs.

The currently enabled Yahoo messenger for iPhone will work over the 3G, but the video calls will take place over Wi-Fi. Here, Apple’s FaceTime is currently designed to run over Wi-Fi and Apple is working with cellular providers to allow the service over 3G.

Earlier in App Store the Yahoo Messenger 2.0 for mobile was rated with 3 stars and having mixed responses about its working. There were complaints from many users mentioning that video chat features was with full of flaws.

The current update from Yahoo in this context is now challenging to Apple to initiate FaceTime standard to even more devices. When Apple announced the FaceTime standard for the first time, promised that it would soon be available on tens of millions of devices. In September iOS update brought the FaceTime to the iPod Touch successfully. Also, the next-gen iPad is also expected to be equipped with video conferencing standard.
