Motorola Droid 3 Review With Keyboard Open

Motorola Droid 3 was released last week and we got the review for you! Here is what we think about Droid 3 and has to offer as far as specs and info goes. Unlike other reviews you might read we actually don’t favor any companies therefore our reviews are more straight forward. In our opinion it is best to review devices just like you would go to the store and take a look at the device your self.

Motorola Droid 3 Video

Here is video I shot early this morning that pretty much sums up the whole information I am about to share below.

Motorola Droid 3 Review by MWD

As you can see in the video above, this Motorola Droid 3 is very responsive and that is all due to the 1GHz dual-core processor (Thanks god they started introducing more and more duals). The advantage of the dual-core processors is that you can run apps faster, load many heavy duty apps and still get relatively good response time from the app. The disadvantage which is also common on Motorola Droid 3 is that the battery life is not as good as maybe other Android devices we reviewed by us. I played with it for about 2-3 hours used web, loaded Angry Birds, watched some flash website and videos. By the time I was done playing with Droid 3, I still had about 55-60% of battery life left, which is not to bad nowadays.

Pictures are amazing!!! I used the 8MP camera that does have LED Flash and I must say pictures are outstanding, just like you would have a real point and shoot camera. Love the fact that Motorola added the 1080P video recording, because a lot of people do take videos since the smartphones can hold up to 64Gb of storage and that’s a lot of videos to be recorded! (Motorola Droid 3 comes with 16GB internal memory)

Android 2.3.4 which is latest OS also known as Gingerbread helps a lot with the battery life, I can’t imagine even having this phone with other OS version, it kind of makes sense.

Overall people, I love the phone because of the size, storage and especially dual-core processor. But, yes there is always that “but” I do not like the physical keyboard! Now some of you are here with me, but some of you DO prefer to have physical keyboard. Well for those that do love physical keyboard, this phone is bit thiker than what you would usually see on streets.

Motorola Droid 3 Pictures

Well if you like what you see, head over to Verizon Store or just go to www.verizonwireless.com website and check it all out. Price on Motorola Droid 3 is currently $199 but am sure that if you look at some sites like amazon.com, wirefly.com etc.. you will find it even cheaper.

Please do tell us what to include next time in our review, and if you do have additional questions please feel free to use the commenting section below!

Motorola Xoom which release date was on February 24th has been in our hands for a while now and here is our Motorola Xoom review in detail.

Let’s start with pros and cons of Motorola Xoom and then will go down step by step:

Pros:

  • Very Fast due to dual core processor
  • Android 3.0 aka Honecomb
  • Front and Rear facing camera
  • YouTube panoramic video view
  • GTalk with Video Calling feature
  • Loud speakers!
  • First 4G Tablet

Cons:

  • Battery life could be improved
  • Skype does not allow video calls (yet)
  • Some apps don’t work right on Honeycomb
  • Bit heavy, you get tired of carrying it after 20 minutes (IMO)
  • No Netflix, Hulu apps? Hello!

Well now we can go in bit technical aspect of Motorola Xoom:

Dual Core processor adds some serious performance when switching between the apps as well as running some heavy games such as Angry Birds etc.

  • Tegra 2 dual core 1GB RAM processor

Display is nice, not to flashy when outside but I must say that you will have to clean it quite often, unless you like your fingerprints all over the screen?

  • 1280 x 800
  • 10.1 in.

Android 3.0 aka Honeycomb on Motorola Xoom is really nice and I like it a lot comparing to Android 2.2 aka Froyo. It’s a lot easier to navigate and its pretty much straight forward for non experienced used or user that has never even played with Android OS.

It has Mini USB , Mini HDMI which is total win for me, because you can hook it up to PC, TV, Laptop you name it. Mostly those ports are being used for transferring files such as pictures, video etc..

Pictures and Video – I was very satisfied with taking pictures on 5MP camera (rare) and the front camera (2MP) is not too bad either. It does record 720p which is enough for you to upload your funny videos to YouTube.

Price for Motorola Xoom = Pricey!

  • 32GB + 3G + Wifi = $800 w.o contract ($600 with data plan contract)

Here is quick video that will explain everything in detail.

Today I got Motorola Xoom in my mail and wanted to share some first experience that I had so far with Motorola Xoom. We will follow up with review shortly.

Basically it’s totally different beast when comparing to Samsung Galaxy Tab or current iPad (not iPad 2). The Android 3.0 aka Honeycomb is really nice polished OS from previous versions. Google added really cool features to do maximum performance and customization right on the front screen.

Well here is the picture we got for you of Motorola Xoom, hope that we will get the full review done by tomorrow.

Over the last couple of days, more information has come to light regarding a so called Motorola X 2 Droid. At first, this information was just thought to be nothing more than rumors but as every hour goes by, more and more technology sites claim that the specs they provide belong to the real device.

What is it?

According to The Mobi Zone, it is supposed to be the successor to the Droid X, with almost an identical appearance, running Android 2.2 with motoblur and last but not least, the same 8 megapixel camera.

Leaked Specifications

The following have yet to be confirmed but they seem pretty decent:

  • 4.3-inch HD (960 x 540) display
  • 1 GHz Tegra 2 dual-core CPU
  • 1 GB RAM

Trustworthy sources claim that this Droid X 2 should be available to Verizon consumers sometime in Q2 2011 without Long Term Evolution (LTE).

Is it worth purchasing?

If the specifications are spot on, it will just be another “Droid X”, with just some minor improvements. Personally, I believe that this might not be worth it and any consumer would be better off purchasing another latest smartphone offered by Verizon if it’s “power and speed” they are after.

With only a few hours left to go for the start of the Mobile World Congress 2011, hosted in the wonderful city of Barcelona, sources have already confirmed that Samsung will be rolling out a new 10.1-inch tablet, aka “The Galaxy Tab 2”.

Codename “Honeycomb”

With their new tablet, running the long-awaited Android 3.0, Samsung is hoping to take on competitive rivals, such as the Motorola Xoom and the current dominant in the tablet market, the Apple iPad.

Specifications

Despite the fact that we are currently unaware of the name of this tablet (let’s refer to it as the Galaxy Tab 2 for the moment), we do have some insight on the specifications it is likely to include.
First of all, various sources claim that it will feature a powerful dual-core Qualcomm chip, also known as “the beast” and an 8-megapixel camera with dual LED flash (easily able to beat the Xoom’s  rear 5.0 megapixel one). Not only is this a powerful camera that will no doubt take relatively high quality pictures, it is also capable of recording 1080P HD video, how awesome is that?
In addition, it will be smaller than the iPad in terms of size but will feature a bigger screen, seven inches wide, with Super AMOLED (will run at 2048 x 1200 pixels – rumored) and capable of reproducing 3D content. There will most likely be a 3 MP camera at the front that will allow the user to carry out video conferencing. Standard features will probably include 3G support, 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth version 3.0. Keep fingers crossed and Samsung might even “throw in” a USB port on one side, alongside a microSD card slot to compliment internal storage, which will consist of at least 64GB – just like the iPad.

Will this tablet live up to expectations? Will it be the new iPad killer? We’ll just have to wait till Sunday to find out.

Verizon chief operating officer john Stratton announced that they are about to distribute smart phones made by Motorola that would run their 4G network service.

Verizon wireless which is actually a joint venture of Vodafone Group PLC and Verizon communications has released its fourth generation network service last month but they could not provide any specialized phone set that is capable of running the service. This network service is based on Long-Term Evolution technology which is claimed to have faster internet speed like land based modems or optical technology. This time they have come up with LTE smart phones by Motorola that will run the 4G network service. Motorola previously stated that they will manufacture products that work on LTE networks but they declined to announce any specific date for the publication. Though they is no specific timeline but it is expected that these device will come to stores by the middle of next year.

In previous few years Motorola and Verizon has established a good relationship among them which supported by Google’s smart phone operating system called Android. But there is been rumors that Motorola will be left behind if Verizon gets iPhone next year.

In contrast with that currently Mr. Stratton has appreciated Motorola’s effort for driving their Droid strategy in the last 13 months and has confirmed Motorola as Verizon’s proffered vendor.  It seems like at present Mr. Stratton and his company is pleased with the service Motorola Have provided them so far and seeming has a strong possibility of lasting long as their preferred one.

In the near future Motorola has plans to split itself into two part as trading company. One will be named Motorola Mobility Inc. which will focus on mobile phones and cable set top boxes and the other one named Motorola Solutions Inc. will concentrate on selling phone devices and computers to corporate users.

Less than a month after Motorola filed a lawsuit against Apple, the company counter sues with two patent infringement.

Apple hits Motorola Inc. and Motorola Mobility Inc. with lawsuit in US federal court. The company wave six patents in the pair of patient suits, including the Droid line. Three of the six focused on touchscreens. Apple claimed about infringing its technology for Droid, Droid 2, Droid X, BackFlip, Charm, Cliq, Cliq XT, Devour A555 and Devour i1.

Motorola Mobility, last month, filed suit in the US District Court in Delaware against Apple asking for a declaratory judgement.

Patents been named by Apple in the suit are:

•U.S. Patent No. 7,812,828 – “Elipse fitting for multi-touch surfaces”
•U.S. Patent No. 7,663,607 – “Multipoint touchscreen”
•U.S. Patent No. 5,379,430 – “Object-oriented system locator system”
•U.S. Patent No. 7,479,949 – “Touch screen device, method, and graphical user interface for determining commands by applying heuristics”
•U.S. Patent No. 6,493,002 – “Method and apparatus for displaying and accessing control and status information in a computer system”
•U.S. Patent No. 5,838,315 – “Support for custom user-interaction elements in a graphical, event-driven computer system”

Apple makes it very clear that if someone is believed to be infringing its patent, the company will sue them. In January 2009, COO of Apple Tim Cook said their approach to this business is like a software-platform business and the company is watching the landscape currently. He added that the company likes market competition as long the other companies do not trip off their IP. Moreover, Apple is prepared to go against anyone in this matter, said Cook.

Earlier, Apple had sued Nokia and HTC.

Apple, from the lawsuit, is seeking for a jury trial along with compensatory damages. It is also learned that Motorola and Apple were in the talk process of licensing agreement for avoiding any litigation, but with the Motorola’s suit last month the discussions broke down.

It is true that Android made a mark over the smartphones business, but surprisingly it is failed to gain attention from the enterprise market. A recent survey revealed that there were just 30% enterprise activations for Android and this is according to survey by Good Technology.

The reason for the failure to enter into the enterprise users’ base is due to lack of VPN support. In fact, Android 2.2(Froyo) includes some native VPN support, it lacks support for the Cisco, IPSec VPN, and has been a source of extreme user frustration.

Now the latest Droid Pro made some difference to this situation. Motorola has teamed up with biometric sensor provider Authen Tech in order to provide a pre-installed VPN app that is designed to be easy to configure.

The new app is the first of its kind to support Cisco IPSec and at the same time, covers the full range of VPN solutions such as Tunnel mode IPSec, two way creation, IKEv1, IKEv2 and split Tunneling. These selections cover VPNs from basic native OS support to the high end enterprise devices.

Motorola’s Press release in this regard can explain further more about this. Here, the point is that this new Droid Pro entry along with the new app that is a creating a foundation of VPN support is going to bring more attention for Android, especially from enterprise user base.

Android phone once again facilitated with a very useful app and this time it is from Motorola for printing documents. The latest application was demonstrated this week at the CTIA wireless trade at San Francisco.

The app MotoPrint is currently available in beta version and lets the user to select a document on the Android phone and the same can be printed easily on any postscript printer on the same local network as the phone. Now Android users can print Microsoft Office documents, PDFs and Graphics through this new app.

MotoPrint app user interface is pretty basic and this is not integrated with any other apps. Just open the app and select the document from your Android phone that needs to be printed. Now locate a printer nearby and choose the option to print. You can use cool Google map view for locating the local printers and this approach will be quite apt for campus-wide Wi-Fi network.

Currently most of the Android phones are primary internet access devices and this situation is demanding a lot for this printing option and now it is very well fulfilled through MotoPrint successfully. Apple did the same act through its latest iOS 4.2 with the help of AirPrint, but this app supports only HP printers. MotoPrints can support many more printers successfully.

MotoPrint full version will be coming by the end of this year and probably will be available through “Shop4Apps” app store and the Android Market.

Motorola yesterday published few details about another upcoming Android Phone that is Motorola Droid 2 Global. As usual this one goes into the Verizon’s kitty.

The latest device is powered through 1.2 GHz processor and capable to access Verizon’s 3G and WCDMA/HSDPA/HSUPA networks, which are Europe carriers. This Droid 2 Global is a slide-out QWERTY keyboard and has “improved touch screen technology”. Its 5-megapixel camera got dual LED flash and autofocus. The device runs on Android 2.2 platform along with Adobe Flash Player Mobile 10.1. It has 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, GPS, and Bluetooth 2.1+EDR.

This Droid 2 Global offers support for exchange and POP3/IMAP 4 email and support for Micro SD card up to 32GB. Motorola is quite reluctant to offer the price and release date of this interesting smartphone. Yep, remember, Motorola mentioned that the mentioned specs are having a scope for revision currently.
