The Xperia Play has been out for quite a while now, approximately two to three months. And, despite it’s powerful capacity, and much lauded ‘Playstation’ compatible certification, the Xperia Play hasn’t been covered that much in the media. Running on Android, the Xperia Play is definitely a Sony influenced phone, judging by the ubiquitously shaped butt0ns, and the directional pad.

There are no analog sticks on the device, something which some Playstation enthusiasts might find a little disconcerting. Instead, they are replaced with touch sensitive ‘circles’ which aim to provide the same function as the analog sticks. They aren’t as good as the original obviously, but they do get the job done relatively well. There are also shoulder buttons on the top of the device, when held in Gamepad format, serving as the L1 and L2 buttons quite well, despite being slightly sensitive.

However, opening and closing the device into gamepad format is extremely smooth, a springloaded release enabling you to click the phone in and out of the two modes in a satisfying, but slightly risky fashion. The slider also is sturdy enough to ensure that the screen always remains in a perfectly horizontal position, despite the abuse thrown at it. Good for players that really do get into their game (by buttonmashing) as Sony has considered the ‘intricate’ motions required to play fighting games. Of course, the added gamepad has the downside of making the Xperia Play one of the fattest Android phones being released, a bulky contender, when compared to the current iPhone or Samsung Galaxy generation.

Inside the Xperia Play, are a standard processor, and a decent amount of memory, clocking in at 512 MB. Using  a 1GHz Qualcomm MSM8255 Snapdragon chip, which is equipped with a  Adreno 205 GPU, the Xperia Play is more than capable of running Android apps, to the larger Playstation 1 games, without suffering from too much lag, let alone unplayability. Battery Life is another concern, given its relatively short battery life, of approximately 22 hours, despite it only performing low level tasks, such as browsing the internet, or composing email. Continuous Audio play is much shorter, while the device supports about 5.5 hours of continuous 3D gameplay.

While the camera is decent clocking in at a reasonable 5MP, the largest problem about the screen, which is for some reason, extremely dim. This design problem is exemplified, when trying to use the device in daylight. Despite being on maximum brightness, it is extremely difficult to see things on screen.

The Xperia Play looks like a worthy contender for your pocket, sans the screen currently, but the devices viabillity in the future remains to be seen, given its limited processing and memory capacity. But to not end on a pessimistic note, the PS3 also uses 512MB of  RAM, and has still remained at the forefront of graphical performance (sort of), despite being in operation for half a decade.

Motorola Droid 3 Review With Keyboard Open

Motorola Droid 3 was released last week and we got the review for you! Here is what we think about Droid 3 and has to offer as far as specs and info goes. Unlike other reviews you might read we actually don’t favor any companies therefore our reviews are more straight forward. In our opinion it is best to review devices just like you would go to the store and take a look at the device your self.

Motorola Droid 3 Video

Here is video I shot early this morning that pretty much sums up the whole information I am about to share below.

Motorola Droid 3 Review by MWD

As you can see in the video above, this Motorola Droid 3 is very responsive and that is all due to the 1GHz dual-core processor (Thanks god they started introducing more and more duals). The advantage of the dual-core processors is that you can run apps faster, load many heavy duty apps and still get relatively good response time from the app. The disadvantage which is also common on Motorola Droid 3 is that the battery life is not as good as maybe other Android devices we reviewed by us. I played with it for about 2-3 hours used web, loaded Angry Birds, watched some flash website and videos. By the time I was done playing with Droid 3, I still had about 55-60% of battery life left, which is not to bad nowadays.

Pictures are amazing!!! I used the 8MP camera that does have LED Flash and I must say pictures are outstanding, just like you would have a real point and shoot camera. Love the fact that Motorola added the 1080P video recording, because a lot of people do take videos since the smartphones can hold up to 64Gb of storage and that’s a lot of videos to be recorded! (Motorola Droid 3 comes with 16GB internal memory)

Android 2.3.4 which is latest OS also known as Gingerbread helps a lot with the battery life, I can’t imagine even having this phone with other OS version, it kind of makes sense.

Overall people, I love the phone because of the size, storage and especially dual-core processor. But, yes there is always that “but” I do not like the physical keyboard! Now some of you are here with me, but some of you DO prefer to have physical keyboard. Well for those that do love physical keyboard, this phone is bit thiker than what you would usually see on streets.

Motorola Droid 3 Pictures

Well if you like what you see, head over to Verizon Store or just go to www.verizonwireless.com website and check it all out. Price on Motorola Droid 3 is currently $199 but am sure that if you look at some sites like amazon.com, wirefly.com etc.. you will find it even cheaper.

Please do tell us what to include next time in our review, and if you do have additional questions please feel free to use the commenting section below!

Yesterday we received Droid Incredible 2 and got to play with it the whole day! Before I go into greater detail and review, I would like to say thanks to Verizon PR folks and Developers for letting us review the unit before it even hit the store and share this review with MWD audience.

So let’s get started with Droid Incredible 2 Review!

As some of you might noticed today, Verizon released press about the Droid Incredible 2 which entails good detail as to what the phone looks like and also the release date. Release date for Droid Incredible 2 is on April 28th and it’s going to be available in all Verizon stores but you will also have option to buy it online at Verizon Wireless. Price is right! Price for Droid Incredible 2 is going to be $199 which is kind of standard nowadays for smartphones, but if you want to get it cheaper you might want to hit online stores such as Wirefly or Amazon.

Droid Incredible 2 Display:

Incredible 2 has nice display, I LOVE the size, I think its the perfect size for smartphone and I also think that in the near future other companies should look up to Droid Incredible screen size! Its not too wide, not too long but perfect! It’s not Super AMOLED or Retina Display but you must be really picky if your deciding factor is S.A or Retina. Size of the display is 4 inches with 480×854 resolution.

Droid Incredible 2 Battery and Battery Life:

While battery was at 100% I was able to: Make Skype call for 20 minutes, played Angry Birds for 15-20 minutes, browse for almost 1hr, socialize via Seesmic app for twitter for the whole day, shot 26 pictures, 5 minute video, used 3G hotspot for 3 hours, wifi was turned on for 7 hours. I did all that and battery life was at 37% of battery life, which is incredible comparing to other Android smartphones. I am really not sure what they did to this phone, because I have seen similar hardware and same OS but battery would never last that long! Battery is loaded with 1450 mAh.

Droid Incredible 2 Size:

It’s not to small but not to big for holding in hand either. People will not think you are talking on Tablet :) , thats for sure.

Original metrics: Length: 4.72  Width: 2.52 Depth: 0.46

Droid Incredible 2 Pictures and Video:

I can just say oh, my god! Pictures out of this device are astonishing, I took few pictures on this crapy day and even they look awesome. I took pictures in dark too as you can see and if you have not noticed but other smartphones leave either yellowish-white picture , well with Droid Incredible 2 that was not the case at all! It has 8MP camera on the back and 1.3MP camera on the front (mostly used for video calling). Taking video shot of 5 minutes was great at 720p (HD) but I have seen better quality before.

Droid Incredible 2 Hardware, Software and Memory(Specs):

Well the specifications on hardware and software is pretty much same as what it’s currently out in market, so don’t get too excited. It is not Dual Core, it is loaded with Android 2.2.1 OS. I am not sure if this is correct (see picture) but THIS unit came with 1GB Internal memory, and 16GB MicroSD! I have seen some pre-reviews and most of them said the phone has 8GB + expandable upto 32GB with microSD.  I will update you on more regarding the  internal and external memory within 24hrs and correct the statement. It is loaded with spank new qualcomm 1GHZ MSM8655 Snapdragon processor, which is quite nice to have, when you have such powerful phone like this one.Droid Incredible 2 DOES support flash and flash video in browser, I always go to my friends site Gcommerceinc to test the flash, because they have flash banner and flash video on site. I was able to display both without any problem. I also played Flash games for like 10 minutes online! (No, not Farmville :) ). Some other hardware specs : Wi-Fi b/g/n,  Bluetooth 2.1 w/ A2DP, 768MB RAM…

Droid Incredible 2 Pre-Loaded Apps:

It comes with lots of apps, some are very familiar to smartphone owners, but some are exclusive to Verizon. Sure Verizon added their VZNavigator and VCast Videos app which you will not be able to uninstall. My favorite apps are NFL Mobile, Need For Speed: Shift (racing game) and 3G Mobile Hotspot. Speaking of 3G Mobile Hotspot, I was able to use it for hours but only used data for about 15 minutes on my iPad 2. Speed was ok, I mean I hit somewhere between 600-800kbps on average, still better than dial-up? hahahah.

Droid Incredible 2 Verdict by MWD after 12 hours review:

I love to predict future in technology and I usually am 80-90% right when I do so, but back in October of 2010 when I predicted what Droid Incredible 2 is going to have, I pretty much nailed it by 60%? (See for your self). At that time I really expected that Droid Incredible 2 is going to have dual core processor but unfortunately it does not. Is the phone fast? YES! It is very fast even without the dual core processor, and I tested 1 few months ago. The difference between single and dual core processor to me is just how well the heavy applications are handled, otherwise I have not seen any improvement such as opening and closing apps etc… I think this phone is perfect for everyone that loves to take pictures and videos, that loves to customize the screens and still be popular with their new gadget for at least one year. Battery life on Droid Incredible 2 is what impressed me the most, as I mentioned earlier I tested many android phones and I have not seen one that performed such good battery life as Droid Incredible 2 does.

Some of you are still in between the iPhone 4 and Droid Incredible 2, well don’t be. Your decision I think will be more based as to what an operating system can do vs what the two phones have for hardware. I love my iPhone 4 but then again I love Android OS overall (been android gadget owner since 2007-2011). HTC Thunderbolt or Droid Incredible 2?  I Think the major difference is the 3G vs 4G, I would prefer to go with 4G just because of tethering and wifi sharing possibility. When you share wifi over 3g you can hit somewhere between 300kbps and 1mb, but with 4G you hit more than 2-3MB on devices that are connected to devices like HTC Thunderbolt. Other than that both smartphones are awesome, when it comes to design and battery life,  I would go with Droid Incredible 2, but when it comes to network speed, HTC Thunderbolt would be my option.

Here are two sets of Droid Incredible 2 Pictures. First set are pictures of the smartphone it self, and then pictures taken with the phone start by the pictures taken outside (green), two pictures of me (one taken in totall darkness and another one in bright room) dogs sleeping pictures are taken in total darkness, I had to wake them up! See what I do for you’all? :)

Droid Incredible 2 Video Review:

Here is the Video version of Droid Incredible 2 review I just uploaded to Youtube.

Yesterday when we wrote about Droid Incredible 2 we released sneak peek photo  and also at the bottom of the article, we asked our audience to post questions about the Droid Incredible 2. Now, I would like to answer those questions as the last part of this review. If you have some other questions regarding this phone please use the commenting section below and I will answer it as soon as possible.

Question: How is the battery life with regard to leaving sync on, and screen turned up to auto sensitivity? (By Adit)

Answer: Battery life on Droid Incredible 2 so far has been great, we played with it for almost whole day and still had 20% left by the end of the day, and we did a LOT of testing with auto sensitivity turned on.

Question: I’d like to know if the Incredible 2 the same size as the original? or is it as big as the Droid X. (by Mcv-exchange)

Answer: Droid Incredible 2 is little bit bigger than original Droid Incredible you can see it actually in the picture below, how about that!

Question: I really want to know about the quality of photos in regular lighting indoors. Are they grainy? What is the speed between the time you push the button to take the photo and the time it actually snaps the shot. (By Chelsea)

Answer: Quality of picture is AMAZING!!!!! No seriously! I loved the pictures of original Droid Incredible due to 8mp camera, but they did something better with Droid Incredible 2, after all it’s x2! Speed between the push and snap of picture is less than one second, out of 30-40+ Android phones I personally have reviewed, this one so far had the least delay! Not kidding! If I remember I will take picture in video you can watch.

Question: Throw up comparisons to the original Incredible in terms of speed, design, etc… Also comparisons to the Thunderbolt and/or iPhone 4 (by Logan)

Answer:  Thunderbolt in my opinion is bit better, but again (IMO!!) because it has 4G but when it comes to speed and stuff, Droid Incredible 2 Wins! So what do you want? Speed of your network, or speed of your smartphone?  iPhone 4 vs Droid Incredible 2? I hate comparing Android OS to iOS, but let me tell you this, when it comes to pictures, videos, response time, controlability..then Droid Wins. But if we are talking about the productivity etc? Like using front facing camera on skype or watching movies on Netflix, or having all cute little apps that App Store provides, then iPhone 4 wins. So what do you want? Cute, Nice polished apps or Awesome pictures-video and flash in the browser?

Question(s) and Answer(S): (asked by LundynsMommy)

1. does it save ALL text messages forever unless you delete them?
- I have not msg much, but I would imagine it saves ALL your txt msgs, which phone does not?

2. can you easily search/navigate text messages? I’m assuming you can text in a chat-type format, but then can you go through messages individually later?
-Yes it is easy to search and navigate, it has search option for all msgs or individual ones.

3. is it true that you can use the Swype technology on their keyboard?
-No there is not Swype pre-installed, but you can install it later on.

4. is the internal storage still only 8GB?
- 1GB! + 32GB MicroSD! (This answer is subject to change! This unit we currently are reviewing has only 1GB, others say it has 8GB internal memory)

5. does it allow plug and play to any computer to access the phone’s contents?
- yes
6. where is the microSD slot located?
MicroSD card insert is internal behind the battery cover, but you don’t need to take the battery out, just pop the cover off and slide it in.
7. how is the flash for the camera? does it white-out whatever you’re taking a picture of?
- it has best flash I have yet to seen! (white-out? I have not experienced it! see pix)
8. what is the fps for the video?
-Have not tested the frames, but looking at the data of the video it is 30fps. Takes 720HD videos.

———————————————

Well folks, thats the full review of Droid Incredible 2, I hope you like it, and please don’t judge my language, sometimes when I write long articles I tend to be horrible at grammar and that is because I speak and write 5 languages :)

Now be kind and share this article with others via twitter, facebook or whatever social networking site you use.

THANK YOU!!!!

Well today we said that we are going to do Droid Incredible 2 review but I forgot to mention that we ALSO are going to release Casio GZone Commander review which many of you might have not even heard about it! (I know, me too!)

Casio GZone commander is totally different beast than any other Android, it is unique smartphone and so far I will tell you that:

You either are going to love it or hate it! It’s like those boxy cars on the street, you either love it or hate it.

Casio GZone Commander review will be released today at midnight. I will try to be as descriptive as possible, take some pictures and also upload video to youtube MWD channel.

Want some of the sneek peek?

Casio GZone Commander

Casio GZone Commander

What can I tell you now about Casio GZone Commander?

Nothing much except that it runs on Android 2.2OS , has cool features but most amazingly it meets military standards 810G. Which in other word means, you can talk on this phone outside while it rains, you can go through Sahara where temperatures are very high and where is lots of sand. I say this phone should be bought by construction workers and those that don’t need to buy an extra Otterbox heavy duty case, because Casio GZone Commander is built with one.

So for more info about it checkout the Verizon Wireless press about the GZone, and then tonight in few hours, stop by at MWD and checkout the full review on Casio GZone Commander.

We just received Droid Incredible 2 also known as Droid Incredible 2. We are going to be one of the first that will review the full features of Droid Incredible 2 tomorrow at midnight!. Why not today? Well we can’t release all the information but I will just say that its 2x better than original Droid Incredible it self.

Picture? Here is sneek peek of Droid Incredible 2 :)

Droid Incredible 2

As you can see above in the picture, I haven’t even unboxed the Droid Incredible 2 yet, so I hope tonight when I get to it, I will be able to do all types of testing on it.

For now, please do comment below and ask all the questions you want to know about the Droid Incredible 2, and then tonight when I do the video review and also write about the Droid Incredible 2 , I really would like to share all the information with you. So far what I can tell you is that it is bigger phone, than original Droid Incredible.

Is Droid Incredible 2 an  iPhone 4 “killer”?

I never really compare Android phones to iPhone 4 just because of the OS differences, but as far as the hardware goes, yes in my opinion it is better. As I said the major difference is always Android OS vs iOS and those two you can’t just compare because we all have our own favorites, likes and dislikes.

If you wish to know more about the phone what it features, please refer to Verizon Press Release document

Well Samsung Gem has been released to public and should be hitting U.S Cellular stores on April 1st. This cool smartphone features Android 2.2, 3.2 full touch screen with advanced anti-scratch, smudge and reflective protective glass display.

Specs Review of Samsung Gem:

  • Weight: 3.85 Ounces
  • Battery: 1500mAh
  • Internal Memory: 126MB
  • External Memory: Up to 16GB microSD card
  • Android 2.2 a.k.a Froyo
  • 3.2 Camera

and that’s about it as far as the cool spec’s goes.

I think it’s a cool smartphone for those that are still new to touch screen or android operating system, otherwise tech geeks like my self do require bit more out of new smartphones that are being released this year. This I think it’s a third android smartphone that has been released for U.S Cellular and in my opinion they should be releasing more.

samsung gem review

Samsung Gem review comment by androidcommunity.com:

The price of the handset is very reasonable, and if you’re able to wade your way through the data / talk / messaging plans US Cellular has listed, you’re going to be golden. This is a solid little phone that, if you gave to your aunt, she’d understand – and she’d want more, too! Like I mentioned above, this is an excellent bridge onto the ever-expanding castle that is Android.

If you are with U.S Cellular, what do you think? Good or Bad phone? Leave creative responses in the commenting section below.

Motorola Xoom which release date was on February 24th has been in our hands for a while now and here is our Motorola Xoom review in detail.

Let’s start with pros and cons of Motorola Xoom and then will go down step by step:

Pros:

  • Very Fast due to dual core processor
  • Android 3.0 aka Honecomb
  • Front and Rear facing camera
  • YouTube panoramic video view
  • GTalk with Video Calling feature
  • Loud speakers!
  • First 4G Tablet

Cons:

  • Battery life could be improved
  • Skype does not allow video calls (yet)
  • Some apps don’t work right on Honeycomb
  • Bit heavy, you get tired of carrying it after 20 minutes (IMO)
  • No Netflix, Hulu apps? Hello!

Well now we can go in bit technical aspect of Motorola Xoom:

Dual Core processor adds some serious performance when switching between the apps as well as running some heavy games such as Angry Birds etc.

  • Tegra 2 dual core 1GB RAM processor

Display is nice, not to flashy when outside but I must say that you will have to clean it quite often, unless you like your fingerprints all over the screen?

  • 1280 x 800
  • 10.1 in.

Android 3.0 aka Honeycomb on Motorola Xoom is really nice and I like it a lot comparing to Android 2.2 aka Froyo. It’s a lot easier to navigate and its pretty much straight forward for non experienced used or user that has never even played with Android OS.

It has Mini USB , Mini HDMI which is total win for me, because you can hook it up to PC, TV, Laptop you name it. Mostly those ports are being used for transferring files such as pictures, video etc..

Pictures and Video – I was very satisfied with taking pictures on 5MP camera (rare) and the front camera (2MP) is not too bad either. It does record 720p which is enough for you to upload your funny videos to YouTube.

Price for Motorola Xoom = Pricey!

  • 32GB + 3G + Wifi = $800 w.o contract ($600 with data plan contract)

Here is quick video that will explain everything in detail.

Today I got Motorola Xoom in my mail and wanted to share some first experience that I had so far with Motorola Xoom. We will follow up with review shortly.

Basically it’s totally different beast when comparing to Samsung Galaxy Tab or current iPad (not iPad 2). The Android 3.0 aka Honeycomb is really nice polished OS from previous versions. Google added really cool features to do maximum performance and customization right on the front screen.

Well here is the picture we got for you of Motorola Xoom, hope that we will get the full review done by tomorrow.

Some of our friends at Engadget, TechCrunch, Wallstreet etc got hands on iPhone 4 Verizon and did reviews. These iPhone 4 Reviews all sound great and you bet we are getting some units our self here shortly.

iPhone 4 Verizon Reviews

All ThingsD (Wall Street) iPhone 4 Review:

In my tests, the new Verizon version of the iPhone did much better at voice calling than the AT&T version, and offers some attractive benefits, like unlimited data and a wireless hot-spot capability. But if you really care about data speed, or travel overseas, and AT&T service is tolerable in your area, you may want to stick with AT&T.

Engadget iPhone 4 Verizon Review:

this is very much the iPhone 4 that people have come to know and love. It’s not the next generation Apple device, it’s not a wowee-zowee LTE experiment, and it isn’t a revolution in mobile computing. What it is, however, is a big chance to give a large portion of America’s smartphone users a crack at a phone they’ve likely been lusting after for some time. It’s also an opportunity to give relief to long-suffering AT&T customers in the form of a usable, reliable phone (not to mention a good way to kill many of the jokes the current phone’s calls have created)

TechCrunch iPhone 4 Verizon Review:

There’s long been a slogan that goes along with many Apple products — “it just works”. It’s also the best way to sum up this review. The iPhone 4 on Verizon: it just works.

Well hope you like the excerpts because some of these reviews are way too long to write about. But one thing to remember its“pretty much”  just a carrier change so whether you like ATT or Verizon, iPhone 4 is same.

Samsung Continuum is Galaxy S phone from Verizon Wireless. Below you will see Samsung Continuum review, specs pictures and video, so I hope you are going to like it. If you have any questions regarding Samsung Continuum smartphone let me know in the comment section below.

Samsung Continuum is really great phone comparing to other Android OS smarphones that are out there. Best feature that I like is the Super AMOLED 1.8 ticker at the bottom. Basically with the Ticker you can quickly see your Facebook streamline, Twitter updates , RSS feeds and more.

Samsung Continuum has Super AMOLED 3.8″ Display with 1.8 inch also Super AMOLED ticker. The super AMOLED really gives that extra crisp when you are watching videos or pictures, something similar has been seen on iPhone 4 with retina display yet many agree that Super AMOLED display’s are way better.

Samsung Continuum comes with cool preloaded Apps some of those are 3G Mobile Hotspot, Skype, Tetris game (demo), AllShare, Blockbuster and Amazon Kindle. My favorites are AllShare and Skype because with Allshare I was able to play video right from my phone on my HDTV and Skype we know what Skype does right? I called few of my friends that are oversees and the tone quality was awesome. Best of all about the Skype on Verizon is that you can actually use it on 3G , trust me it saves lots of minutes.

Samsung Continuum battery is great considering that it has extra display to power on. I was able to play music for hours and play some Angry Birds game at the same time and battery was still at 50% so I must say that battery life is really good. Thing is that when you get smartphone that is operated on Android OS you got to know what to turn off especially the apps that like to run in the background.

Samsung Continuum video and camera are good too, it comes with 5PM camera and flash on the back. I took some pictures outside and inside which were great as long as objects don’t move (like my 2 crazy dogs). Overall I was happy with the performance.

Samsung Continuum is powerful smartphone because it comes with 1Ghz Cortex A8 Hummingbird processor which is really good. I loaded few applications and due to powerful processor like Cortex A8 I must say it handled the speed and performance good.

Samsung Continuum comes with Swype keyboard which is still my favorite after physical keyboard. I like Swype because now I don’t even have to look at the phone to know what I am typing.

Samsung Continuum is powered with Android 2.1 Update-1 firmware but I did hear that by end of this year it should get Android 2.2 which then will support also Flash/Flash player.

Overall experience was great, Samsung Continuum is now my 2nd choice between Droid Incredible and Droid X. I like the way phone handled application, battery lasted quite enough and best of all as I said above is the 1.8″ ticker at the bottom. Anyway I will let you know watch the video and pictures below. This phone should be availiable on Verizon Wireless website in case you are interested in buying one. But you might want to checkout Amazon.com and see if they have any special deals as far as the pricing goes.

Hey guy’s just got 3 phones today to review as title says “LG Vortex, Samsung Continuum And Motorola Citrus”. At fist I thought that it’s Samsung Galaxy Tab which I already half reviewed but had no chance to play with it for a week or so. Anyway, I opened Samsung Continuum and immediately  I said out of all of these three phones Samsung Continuum is best looking and has best features.

So I will review these three phones over the weekend and probably release all reviews Sunday or Monday. If you have some questions now, please do follow up in the comment section below.

Droid Pro arrived two day’s ago at my office and I will be doing review here shortly. My fist Impression was: Nice! After playing with it for half a day I must say that Blackberry owners might switch instantly to Droid Pro, just because it’s fast, runs on Android 2.2, has lots of features that Blackberry does not. Well you will find out everything after I am done with the review. I should publish an article on Droid Pro review tomorrow (Sunday 11/14/2010)

Droid Pro is basically a bigger size BlackBerry which has touch-screen display and physical keyboard. To be honest I have not seen keyboard like that on any phone, because the Droid Pro keyboard has like a split in the middle so you can tell even if you are not looking on which side your finger is. I think that’s really helpful for those that like to type while looking at something else :)

So in next 24 hours you will see full review of Droid Pro but for now ill just give you tease picture.

Finally I got the Droid R2D2 unit to review from Verizon, yes the Star Wars Fans phone. If I were Star Wars Fan this would be a phone to fulfill my collection, but unfortunately I am not. Don’t get me wrong Star Wars Fans I can still review the phone in full detail, let me proof that to you:

Droid R2D2 Review

When I do reviews I never put pictures first and then explain what the phone does or has, but this time I will start like that.

Droid R2D2

Droid R2D2 Display:

  • 3.7 Inch
  • 854×480 Display Resolution

Display is basically a standard 3.7 inch size. You might have hard time reading books from Amazon Kindle app but watching full length movie is not that bad, even thought I prefer something bigger and I am sure most of you do to. Playing video from YouTube in High Def was quite fun watching but I must admit that movies, clips etc.. with lower resolution or low brightness made watching almost impossible. While having Droid R2D2  outside in bright daylight I had bit issues seeing what’s going on the screen, but switching it to full brightness made that issue go away.

Droid R2D2 Hardware & Sofware:

  • 1Ghz OMAP 3600 Series
  • Android 2.2 a.k.a Froyo OS
  • 5MP Camera
  • BlueTooth 2.1+EDR
  • Wi-Fi & 3G
  • 8GB RAM (Internal) + 8GB MicroSD preloaded

Droid R2D2 is quite good loaded smartphone comparing to what is out on the market. 1Ghz OMAP processor with Android 2.2 makes phone performance really good even for high tech geek like me, R2D2 performed all my satisfactions. I liked the 5MP Camera but I still think they should of load it with 8MP that Droid Incredible has, just so its bit different from other Droid’s. I tested Wi-Fi and 3G Mobile Hotspot. 3G Mobile Hotspot basically allows you to turn your 3G Network  into Wi-FI, you can connect 5 different devices to it without any problems, except if you are watching YouTube on all 5 devices the network speed is then quite worthless. Remember that 3G Mobile Hotspot is not free , you got to get Verizons $20 extra data plan in order to use it, but question is if it’s worth it?

While I did not had chance to fill the 8GB internal memory with music and videos, I must say that those 8GB come quite handy especially if you are somebody like me that downloads 5 books (At least) a month via Audible App.  Well if you are not book reader I am sure you will be happy to have 8GB of RAM either way. Bluetooth worked flawlessly , with my car, my bloetooth headset , so there is not much to say about that.

Droid R2D2 Apps and Games

Droid R2D2 comes with 1 demo game called Need For Speed (Shift) Its one of my favorite games on Droid phones. I love the graphics and game it self especially, and to get full version you will have to pay $10 more, just saying!

Special apps that came with R2D2 are called Star Was ESB Binocular and The Best of R2D2. Binocular App is quite fun but maybe even more fun than for somebody that is Star Wars Fan. The Best of R2D2 app is basically just a video that shows what the title actually describes “The best of R2D2″ . My favorite apps are Skype just because I can call my friends for free via 3G network and Wi-Fi to their Skype accounts only, and my other favorite app is QuickOffice just because I do get lots of Word documents, presentations and PDF files and that app allows me to view them all!

What else?

Well phone comes with several different live background wallpapers and also few non-animated wallpapers from Star Wars which I think for phone like this is very suitable. Oh! I forgot to tell you about the Docking station or what Verizon calls it media dock. I love that piece because I used it today at my office and it just felt right. I could see big clock, check the weather etc..

Anyway instead of me typing all this up , I would like you to watch the video from this point on. I hope you are going to like it, and if you have  any questions please don’t hesitate to ask in the comment section below.
